Have you ever wondered what the best ways to set up a website for SEO are?
So should you use 'Categories' or 'Categories and sub categories'
Now the short answer is that both are fine, however i will give you a couple of quick tips!
Few Categories Tip number one is always work towards fewer categories and sub categories.I have worked with a lot of site owners that seem to get carried away creating multiple categories and especially sub categories all over the place.
When you do this it becomes an absolute to try and manage the website so always stick with the saying that less is more.
Avoid Too many sub categories This is tip number 2.This is something also i have seen a lot of site owners do where they have loads of different categories which just go on and on.
That can cause issues with the length of your URL and again it get really messy.I would work towards maybe category, sub category and then page but certainly avoid having too many sub categories!
Avoid near duplicates This is also something that i have seen occasionally where site owners use the same variation of the main keyword!
For example their site might have
Cars.com/wheel for the first category
And for another category they might have Cars.com/Wheels
The two are very similar and this can cause a lot of problems for the site management and the user when they try to navigate themselves around the website.
Keep it simple Ok the last tip is to just keep it simple for some reason some site owners get carried away with categories and sub categories specially on ecommerce websites where they might have 4 to 5 different versions of the same couch maybe different colors or textures!
And they will go about creating categories and sub categories and in the end they just end up with a mess of a website so always work towards having fewer categories and sub categories and always only implement what you really need!
Conclusion OK so that is it for this article guys cheers!
