Email vs Social media. This is quite a controversial topic, many people have to get into these long arguments about which one is better, which one you should be focusing on and i hope to clarify a couple of things realted to this topic.
There are a couple of things you can do to just kind of decide which one will work best for you.So let's start with the first one
Looking at your business i recommend that you take a look at your business. So for example if you offer social media services or write content to try to help people just to help people really grow their social media then you better have a strong social media presence!
I have seen people say that they are social media managers but they have a really poor presence online.
So it will be hard to convince people to spend $300 on a product if you think that you will not see actual results.
On the flip side of this if you run some sort of email marketing courses or service then you need to be able to be put your money where your mouth is.You know you need to indicate that you are very good at what you do,you need to prove to prove that your are an expert and if not an expert then you need to prove that you are an authority!
Unfortunately most people do not follow either one of those categories so i definitely have most bloggers be in just an array of different blogger.
So remember this that take a good look at your business.Identify what kind of products or services do you want to create,if in the future you intend to put something out and it has nothing to do with the actual social media platform, for example if it has nothing to do with running a facebook page a group or anything like that then i highly recommend that you focus your efforts on email marketing!
Now people who prefer social media always say that you know what 'email marketing is outdated and you should not do that'
There is no evidence of that trust me.Now the nice thing about email marketing and building an email list is that you actually OWN those emails in a sense that no one can take them away from you, unless the person who has subscribed to you decides that they no linger want to be on your list.
On the flip side of things, you do not actually own social media platforms, they are owned by Tumblr,Facebook,Twitter etc so if they at some point decide that they want to close your account or move or who knows what happens then the people who are actually following you or your potential customers they do not belong to you they belong to that platform!
Just keep that in mind.
And for some reason if you no longer have access to them then there is nothing really you can do about tit.
Good business sense would be to have an actual copy of all the people who may be interested in your content and the most sure way to do that is through email marketing.
Now i am not trying to say that social media should be completely forgotten about because you see that social media is really powerful when it comes to humanizing your brand, you know in the sense that you can reach out to more people!
One of the most popular ways to get an email subscriber is by having somebody visit your website but if you are on instagram and someone finds you through hashtags then that means that they were not on your website but they might be interested in you but they were just hanging out on instagram so they found you that way. That is a very powerful tool to have and in the end if you are offering a product or a service then i definitely recommend placing email marketing just a tad bit higher than social media.
But that does not mean that you ignore social media enirely.
So i hope this article helped you out,i wish there was a cut and dry answer for this but there is not but i hope this helps anyway!
