Today's question is 'when it comes to SEO,which is more important link building or Content?
This is certainly an interesting question i am not sure how i feel about this one but i will certainly give it a crack!
So the reason why i say that this is an interesting question is because most people want to invest their time and effort in either link building or writing useful, descriptive content.
Now this to me really does not make any sense,it is almost comparable to the question..'Which came first the chicken or the egg?'
They are both important so i want to run with you just a couple of thoughts on manual link building as well as opposed to publishing content.
Now i am going to break this down in both long term and short term,so firstly i want to start by focusing on short term,
So lets start of with an example of a brand new website, just think that a new website has been launched and it does not have any links and it does not have any content. So basically it does not have an online presence, now link building at this point that is manual link building, makes sense because of course you don't have an established link profile
So link building at this point does make sense, and link building or initial link building or as i refer to as foundational link building,at this point you should look at things such as listing yourself in incredible business directories, setting up of course or just citations, listing in bing places and Google my business!
Now of course you can take link building a whole lot further than that, but certainly you don't want to be sacrificing your time long term and sacrificing your time and not investing yourself towards publishing content.
This now brings me to our next point which is ling term efforts, now when i say long term i mean 5,6 to 10 years down the line.
You need to change your way of thinking, shift from manual link building and focus your efforts on natural link acquisition that is of course getting links naturally!
You should spend your time on publishing what i call 'linkable assets' this is content that people give an emotional response towards when they read it!
They either can't wait to share it on social media or link to it.
This effort of publishing 10x content long term is exactly where you want to focus your efforts on because you know that is where comes a level of engagement, social shares and links!
Now a good strategy for content is to reverse engineer what is already working in your space and essentially improve upon it.
Now don't just limit your efforts to publishing written content, you should do written content, make videos ad maybe do weekly podcasts.
You can also upload guides in pdf format!
The whole purpose of doing this is to build an audience of followers who absolutely love your stuff because they will become your link building army.
Now when this happens everything else will fall into place.
Conclusion So in summary what is more important when it comes to link building and content.
I would say link building initially but certainly invest all your long term efforts towards producing high quality content!
